"We love Dr. Smithers!"

"My almost 19 year old had a thoracotomy, tracheopexy, and removal of a tracheal diverticulum at All Children's with Dr. Smithers.   Dr. Smithers is amazing and all the nurses, anesthesia, and GI teams are fantastic. We drove 8 hours from Charleston, SC."

“We met Dr. Smithers in 2018 for a second opinion.  We never expected him to discover a recurrent tracheoesophageal fistula and significant tracheomalacia.  He was straight forward, patient, kind, and answered all my questions about his surgical recommendation, understanding how stressful medical decision making can be. He operated on my daughter (14 months, born 32 w ea/tef type c) with a posterior tracheopexy.

We had zero complications and came home with a brand new child 6 days later. No hospitalizations or major illnesses since, an increase in appetite and energy. She is now almost 3 and no one would ever know, aside from a scar, what she’s been through. We would highly recommend Dr. Smithers for anyone looking for an evaluation, surgery, and follow up care for esophageal and airway conditions.”

"Dr. Smithers did all 3 of my daughter's airway surgeries; we love him as her surgeon and as the amazing person he is!!!"

"Dr, Smithers texted me several videos of the surgeries he felt would help my son (19).  Dr. Smithers also got our insurance to cover my son being admitted after the scopes and CT scan on Thursday so we didn't have to go to a hotel and come back the next morning for the big surgery.

Dr. Smithers also personally came to the recovery room at least 3x a day to check on my son.....even though the surgery team did their rounds to visit us.  Dr. Smithers also knew that Dean was overly anxious about having the chest tube removed so he personally came up to remove it himself."

"Dr. Smithers did my son's posterior and diverticulum removal robotically.  What a life changing event for my son.  He is top notch, in my opinion.

"I can't begin to explain how comforting Dr. Smithers was during my daughter's posterior tracheopexy and bilateral bronchopexy surgery when she was 11 months old.  He explained every last detailed, answered all of my overly anxious questions as a mother, and "just popped by" in the ICU at 2am after a long day of surgery to "see how our girl is"- words I will never forget as a mom.

I know doctors like him see thousands of kids, but he will forever be a part of our hearts, because he treated our daughter like she was his only concern."
